More Information

A 100-mile ultra on nice underfoot, runnable, scenic — not to mention mythical trails.

From the village hall you head out towards the Chesterfield Canal. Once on the towpath, runners simply follow this all the way to Manton. A few miles after Manton, the trail joins a 30-mile forest loop through the heart of Sherwood Forest — completed twice, typically the first loop in daylight and the second in darkness.

The route passes through Clumber Park (home to the longest Lime Tree Avenue in Europe), peaceful farmland, charming lodges, Creswell Crags, and skirts the Welbeck Estate.

You'll run past The Major Oak — the very place steeped in the mythical tales of Robin Hood.

Relatively flat with no major climbs. Many runners achieve their first 100-mile finish here.

Race briefing at 7:40am
Start at 8:00am

Cutoff:

30 hours to finish. We want you to finish and will give you every opportunity to make this ultimate cutoff. See Detailed Instructions for on-route cutoffs.

Pacers:

Allowed from Aid Station 4 (approx mile 51) to finish. One pacer at a time. Pacer must not carry runner's equipment.

Crews:

Allowed and encouraged for 100-mile distance. Aid stations are sufficient for unsupported runners — the race is built with non-supported runners in mind.

Drop Bags:

Located at Aid Station 4 (Forest Loop) — accessible at mile 22, 51, and 81. Three uses total.

Parking:

Available at the hall and potentially a local farmyard. Limited spaces — please car share or get dropped off. No parking in the village.

TRANSPORT & ACCOMMODATION

Getting There:

No public transport on race morning. Nearest train stations are Retford or Gainsborough (10-15 mins by car). Arrive Friday — we can help arrange lifts via our Facebook page. Everyone has always made it to the start line.

Accommodation:

B&Bs and hotels available in Retford or Gainsborough. Retford is more convenient if you need a lift to the start. Book early — small towns fill up quickly.

TRACKING NOTE

Due to repeated tracker issues in dense forest, runners will not wear GPS trackers. Runners are accounted for by admin recording at aid stations.

We recommend using a phone tracking app so your crew can follow you — works better than the trackers ever did.
